Domain Mapping

You have run a site on Name.ly for a while and decided you now need to move to your own domain name? You like services of Name.ly or any of its sites and would love to have exactly the same on the domain name you already own or intend to buy?

Mapping domain names on existing Name.ly site was never that easy before. All you need is just to make two small steps.

1. Go to your site admin area and map the domain:

Tools > Domain Mapping

Don’t open it yet though, as you need to change the DNS settings. If you open your domain name in the browser before you set A record, it will cache the old DNS settings and you might need to wait for a while for the new ones to propagate.

Note: International Domain Names should be in punycode format.

2. Set the A record with your registrar or hosting provider.

Instructions: how to set the A record with your registrar or hosting provider.

For the mapped site to work, you need to set the DNS settings of your domain names either via your registrar or via your hoster accounts. Below go instructions for updating the A record of your domain.

In case your domain name is parked with your registrar go to their web site. If you have changed the name servers of your domain name to another hosting provider - go to the latter. Find your DNS settings and follow the instructions to point the A record (IP address) of your domain to the following IP address used for mapping domains on Name.ly: 78.46.37.188.

You only need to change your domain's (or sub-domain's) A records (precisely two of them: "@" and "www"), not its name servers. You don't need to forward or redirect anything, all you need is to change or set the A record(s).

If your domain name is with GoDaddy, login into your account, go to their DNS manager section, click on Edit Zone and update "@" field in A Host section. N.B. by default GoDaddy sets record for "www" via CNAME records, so usually you don't have to update "www", only "@".

Depending on your registrar and whether or not you have used the old DNS settings locally on your computer, it may take a while (anything between instantly and 24 hour) for the A record to propagate.

If you don't have your own domain name but would love to buy one, use the following search box:
